Huntley Baldwin June 20, 1939 – August 9, 2011
It is with great sadness
that we at the Art Association say goodbye to our dear friend, Huntley Baldwin.
Huntley served on the board of the Art Association of Jackson Hole for 10 years and played a key role in creating and writing our Mission Statement as well as crafting persuasive advertising campaigns to promote the Art Association. Huntley provided us all with sage advice about the best ways to communicate what we do for the Jackson Community.
He worked 26 years for Leo Burnett in Chicago, one of the world's leading advertising agencies. He then took a short break to return to his alma mater, Northwestern University, to teach and to earn a master’s degree. He retired from Leo Burnett in 1992 as an executive vice president, responsible for many high profile campaigns. Throughout his business career, Huntley made time to pursue his love of painting. His oil paintings were exhibited and sold in galleries located in Illinois, California, and New Mexico.
Huntley and his wife Joan moved to Jackson Hole in 1994, where he began experimenting with watercolor. He discovered that the mountains lent themselves to this medium, and he accepted the challenge with success. This led to the creation of two Jackson Hole books, “Local Color” and “Letters from Jackson Hole,” and a third, “The Provence Book,” about his and Joan’s travels in the south of France. He loved travel and it always informed his work. Whether he had a brush or a fly rod in his hand, Huntley lived his life fully and created unconditionally.
We would like to express our deepest condolonces to Huntley's family. His presence will be missed by us all.
