| Course Description |
For the beginning student, this class will cover the basic skills needed to throw a simple pot including cups, mugs, bowls and plates. You will learn the do’s and don’ts of handling clay, firing, glazing and various decoration techniques. Students will leave the class with the skills to proceed to an intermediate level class or workshop. One 25# bag of clay included with firing, glaze and open studio during duration of class.

| Instructor |
| Sam Dowd was born in Omaha, NE. He got into art at an early age and was turned on to ceramics in seventh grade and has pursued that medium up to the present day. He earned a BFA from the University of Nebraska Kearney, and a MFA in ceramics from Kansas State University. Sam currently works for the Art Association of Jackson Hole where he coordinates and runs the ceramics, sculpture and Y.A.R.D. Art programs. Sam works primarily in clay, pouring handmade slip cast molds, altering the forms and making quirky robots and airships from them. He also welds and casts in metal. |
