Fabrication of small metal work, whether jewelry or sculpture, often calls for “cold connection[s]” for aesthetic and technical reasons, in this two-day workshop, we will explore several cold connection approaches including pin/nail rivets, tube rivets, slots + tabs, pop-up prongs, and hardware. Come prepared with idea drawings for a small wearable or sculpture; bring any found objects that you may want to incorporate into your piece as well. We will start by making paper maquettes to determine overall aesthetic and placement of your choice of cold connections. An introductory lecture with images and tangible examples along with thorough demonstrations and hands-on experience will ensure that each participant gains a confident understanding of several cold connection techniques.
