Course Description

Location: Steve's Workshop in Hoback Junction, directions will be provided at registration

Explore the art of blacksmithing. Students will learn about forging iron, including how to light a coke fire and how to work with a propane forge. Students will gain skill in the art of forging by making some of their own tools and doing small projects by tapering, twisting, bending, forge welding, leaf making, hook making and other skills like drawing out iron, twisting, cutting and splitting iron. Students will have time to create their own small works after learning the basics.

Instructor
Steve Fontanini is a designer and builder of forged metalwork for home and business. He and his crew create architectural metalwork such as stair railings, gates, fireplace accessories and even furniture. Bronze, stainless steel, mild steel or aluminum can be forged, cast, machined or welded into any shape or design. He designs items to fit specific environments, tastes and styles. His work is found throughout the U.S.
