Garage Welding

Sam Dowd

Course Description

Learn to use the welder that might be sitting in your garage or barn. Sam will teach you the ins and outs of MIG and Stick welding and plasma cutting on Saturday. Then on Sunday, he will teach the art of oxyacetylene welding and cutting. Handouts and discussions will include welding settings, the differences between using shield gas welding verses flux core, and the differences using torch tips and gas regulator settings. All consumables are supplied with class tuition. Students are welcome to bring small steel projects or scrap that they wish to learn on. Students who have there own welding goggles or helmets should bring them.

Instructor
Sam Dowd was born in Omaha, NE. He got into art at an early age and was turned on to ceramics in seventh grade and has pursued that medium up to the present day. He earned a BFA from the University of Nebraska Kearney, and a MFA in ceramics from Kansas State University. Sam currently works for the Art Association of Jackson Hole where he coordinates and runs the ceramics, sculpture and Y.A.R.D. Art programs. Sam works primarily in clay, pouring handmade slip cast molds, altering the forms and making quirky robots and airships from them. He also welds and casts in metal.
