| Course Description |
Please bring your camera to all classes.
February 9th – Lecture: A brief history of the artist in the studio since the advent of photography.
February 16th – Studio: Lighting techniques for still-life photography, an exploration of commercial methods of consuming an image. Please bring an object or combination of objects to photograph.
March 1st – Lecture and Studio: Photographing the figure/portrait. A model will be provided.
March 7th – Lecture: Contemporary Artists use of the studio, digital lab, and darkroom. Concept Development for a Personal Practice.
March 14th – Studio Work: Developing your individual practice in the studio.
March 21st – Critique: Artists develop and converse with rigor about their individual projects in a group setting.

Thomas Macker received his MFA from CalArts in Photography and Media. He recently transplanted from Los Angeles, CA where he was working as an artist, curator, editorial photographer, and video journalist/filmmaker. As an artist/curator he has exhibited his work in Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and abroad. For WhyTuesday.org, he wrote, shot, directed, and edited for the organization’s website video blog, which was distributed internationally through various web and broadcast outlets including L.A.
